Sell, Sell, Sell!
Well looks like we have sold our Beneteau 40cc, her name is Sayonara. We changed it to that after a major refit when we decided she had to go, why? Because in the imortal words of that guy Brody in Jaws: You’re gonna need a bigger boat!
Ok, the Lagoon 400 is not officially bigger in length but she is definitely bigger in breadth! Or, beam as they call it in yachtie language, a language I am still learning. My father in law always used to say that our monohull was only ‘half a boat’, well the Lagoon 400 (when she gets here) will definitely be a full boat. We have officially ordered the owner’s version and she should be arriving in Sydney, Australia in December 2010, that’s only 8 weeks away!
What else have we sold in order to achieve this ‘dream’? The family home. Well, it’s only been our home for the last five years, had to buy a home after 12 years of travel when we got pregnant with our first child. DD1 was born in 2005 and we have lived in this house since then. We just went unconditional on our house sale late last week so will no longer be home owners in two weeks. Luckily for us the new owners are in no hurry to get here, so we will be able to rent this back for a couple months, before Lagoon arrives!
So – sold the boat, sold the house, that’s all right? No. Now I have to condense our lifes into a small ‘apartment’ on the water. The fourteen large drawers I have in my current kitchen full of ‘essentials’ have to be minimised into two. How? Culling. If I haven’t used it at least once a month in the last twelve months it is in the definite throw/sell/store pile. I plan to have the first of many garage sales soon to achieve the sell part. We will need to find temporary storage soon for the store pile, temporary because we think we will send all our furniture to a house we own down south, free storage! I have already gotten rid of about 20 bags of clothes and toys to goodwill that we don’t use, it’s getting easier the closer we get to our due date.
