We are very blessed. I am blessed in fact with in laws (outlaws) that most would envy. We have a great relationship and that’s because we are like minded. They’ve led the life that we have in turn begun to live ourselves. My in laws paved the way for us, setting examples that we would later follow. They taught us that a lifestyle can be designed instead of accidental. That you should follow your dreams no matter how outlandish they may seem to some. That life is short, and not to waste it. That your family whatever form it takes is important also that good friends can be family too. There have been others that have cemented that belief system in us too over time. My husband and I met at a young age and the liveaboard-bug seeds were planted early.
The Skipper’s parents left their birth country of the UK where family surrounded them to live where they preferred to be, in Australia. Western Australia in fact in the 60’s where my mum in law had spent some of her childhood living with her parents when she was a young girl. They moved to Warnbro Beach where they built the first brick house in the street and across the road from them lay only undulating sand dunes fringed with the beautiful blue stretches of the Indian Ocean. The majority of both their families later followed them from the UK. Grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins living if not in the same street, then close by in the same small town creating a close knit multi generational family unit that remains strong to this day.
