We are officially owners of our new catamaran, yet to be officially named, so I will keep that under wraps till it’s official. We spent two weeks in Sydney helping get her ready for our cruise north, back to Port Douglas. In Sydney we had folding props added, a 2nd fridge in the cockpit area with a little freezer, two LCD tv’s and three fans. Still to be installed is the air conditioning, no rush on that, and in the future, a gen set and solar panels.
We are very happy with her, she is so very comfortable and light and airy. A dream come true!
We left Sydney Harbour on 21st Feb 2011 and sailed around to Pittwater to see some friends. Sailed out again on 22nd Feb and over the last few days have stopped at Port Stephens, Trial Bay, Coffs Harbour and last night at Yamba. So far Yamba was the standout thanks to the Tavern in town. With a courtesy bus and a playground for the kids, it’s possibly the best pub I have ever been to!
So far the sailing has been both good and bad, first two days were blowing 25 – 30 knots and we were managing up to ten knots of speed, great compared to the mono hull. The girls are handling it well, although DD1 lost her lunch on the first day, but has been great ever since. The little evil one, DD2 is of course enjoying every thrilling moment and wants to go even faster. She loves seeing dolphins as well.
We have just past Byron Bay now and will be pulling into the Gold Coast tonight, anchor off and in to Hope Island Resort Marina tomorrow. The engines are due for a service after 50 hours and that is about now! I can’t wait to finally be back in QLD waters, may even crack that bottle of Moet the agent gave us as a housewarming present!
